Cardiff University - John Percival-
Cardiff University has worked closely with GV Multi-media for many years. A joint professional services team consisting of Information Services and Estates was tasked with implementing a pilot set of rooms that would offer a new style for all learning spaces at Cardiff University.
The rooms were designed to deliver a re-vamped learning and teaching environment with a new appearance and updated equipment - the aim being for teaching staff, students and support staff to offer feedback on the new style, allowing for a rollout throughout the University should feedback be positive.
Four rooms in the John Percival Building (0.01, 0.02, 0.06 & 0.36) were chosen to receive this new standard of room design. Improvements to the adjacent corridor were also made in addition to the developments of the four spaces.
Each room received an extensive redesign from the ground up. The aim was to produce a brighter and altogether more inspiring environment for learning.
Such improvements included a presentation wall featuring spot and rope lighting for visibility and aesthetics, collapsible tables that can be easily and quickly arranged, hardwood flooring and dimmable lighting. Stain-resistant glass surfaces were implemented for writing and lampless, high definition projectors were implemented due to their lack of maintenance. The rooms were also fitted with lecterns featuring the University’s logo and simplified controls. Improved audio reproduction and microphones were implemented for larger spaces and document cameras replaced the need for overhead projectors.
