Phoenix delivers a dynamic mix of world-class entertainment and events, spanning the breadth of independent cinema, new media, creative technologies and electronic arts. As well as films, the programme includes exhibitions, performances, festivals, artist residencies, off-site projects, workshops, education activities, seminars and conferences.
As the visual arts require an audience, it made sense to embrace Digital Signage and what it offers as a communication vehicle throughout the building. Due to the variety of film and digital media being shown at any one time, a flexible system was imperative - this is why GV Multi-media were chosen by Keith Butler of Focus, the consultant leading the project.
"GV Multimedia showed they could deliver all we needed in a timely and most professional manner."
The task involved displaying a variety of sources including videos, DVDs, Blu-ray discs and inputs from PCs - with all equipment to be easily controllable from any location within the building. The Screen Lounge required a 3x3 video wall and a flexible projection system while the foyer required a 3x1 video wall and ceiling mounted projector displaying content onto a glass surface. The reception area would feature a pair of displays for digital signage.
A Cat5 matrix system with eight multi-format inputs upscaled to one common resolution and 16 display outputs satisfied Phoenix’s requirement to play content from multiple sources and display it anywhere from a pair of LG LCD flat panel displays, a projected image onto a glass mezzanine, a 3x1 video wall and the 3x3 video wall. Additionally the Hitachi projectors remain flexible within the Screen Lounge, projecting anywhere within the room.
The 3x3 and 3x1 video walls were installed using NEC LCD4020 display panels while the 2x1 video wall above reception was made using a pair of LG screens. The team was able to turn the glass mezzanine into a surface onto which you can project content via use of use of a unique 360 degree film for the glass that increases the gain and allows you to see the image on both sides for a contemporary aesthetic effect.
Digital Signage allows The Phoenix to communicate with their clients in so many different ways and at so many different levels. As a totally flexible solution, Phoenix is able to accommodate any given request and transform the displays to suit - achieving a jaw dropping result in the process.
