West Cheshire College-
GV Multi-Media were approached by West Cheshire College to come up with a solution for the AV requirements needed for their new Handbridge Campus Building on the outskirts of Chester. This comprised of a 21 LCD teaching screens to be installed around the college, a 2x2 video wall in the communal washroom and a 3x2 video wall with multi zone audio and digital signage capabilities to be hung from the underside of their first floor balcony in the main foyer.
GV Multi-media designed a system that was easy to use, met all the requirements that the college requested and had a wow factor for the passing students, staff and visitors.
The task was to display a variety of sources including digital signage, videos, DVDs, Blu-ray discs and inputs from PCs on the video walls and to provide 21 teaching LCD screens which teachers can utilise using PCs, video and IPTV from the colleges AMX IPTV system.
The foyer was to play host to a 3x2 video wall which had the ability to display one large image or a mix of smaller images on single displays or in a 2x2 formation. The communal washroom required one 2x2 video wall with had the ability to host one large image or a mix of smaller images on single displays.
The 3x2 video wall was installed using NEC x462UN display panels and the 2x2 video wall was made using NEC P401 display panels. The 3x2 video wall was hung from the underside of the first floor balcony using a custom made Unicol bracket. The team used AMX’s Xpess Player for the digital signage as this integrated with their current IPTV system which is also AMX. Additionally the team installed a Kramer scaler/switcher system with multi-format inputs upscaled to one common resolution. This satisfied West Cheshire’s requirement that they would be able to play content from a Blu-ray player, a DVD/VCR, a DVD player and PC Input when the video wall was to be used for large scale events and not for digital signage.
Elsewhere GVMM also installed 21 classrooms rooms with LG LCD Screens which will be used for teaching purposes and to also display content from their current IPT system. One of the LCD Screens also had a Sound Tube Dome Speaker positioned above it so the audio could be localised to the screen as it was in an open plan location.
GV Multi-media installed a 9 Screen NECX462UN video wall which was hung from the underside of a first floor balcony in their rotunda using a Unicol video wall bracket. An AMX Digital Signage solution was then used to deploy content to the screens. Using various Kramer scalers, Cat 6 transmitter/receivers and distribution amps, GV also provided West Cheshire with dual inputs for the video wall one based in the reception on ground level and one up in the control room opposite the video wall. An Audio system was also installed. This was to give them greater flexibility when using the video wall for exhibitions and events.
